Geissel's Support University of Iowa & Stead Family Children's Hospital and Pediatric Oncology

Please help us celebrate Cole Geissel's 5 year cancer-free anniversary! Cole is the nephew of CIVCO Radiotherapy's President, Nat Geissel. To show their support for the fight against cancer, the Geissel family recently worked with the University of Iowa Foundation to raise $10,000 which will be donated to the Pediatric Oncology Dept. at the University of Iowa’s Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The University of Iowa is dear to the Geissel family as multiple members of the family are either alumni, have worked, or currently work at University of Iowa Healthcare.

Will Geissel shares Cole's story:

In May 2015, Cole was diagnosed with testicular cancer. At the time, we thought hearing the word “cancer” was the worst moment of our lives. But, after he went through surgery, the process of chemotherapy was definitely the worst and most trying time for us. There were moments that can only be described as feeling as if we were drowning in sorrow. It’s important to note that it doesn’t matter the age of one’s child when you hear a cancer diagnosis, what matters is that it is your child who you want to love and protect. Parents do not want to outlive their children and the dreaded thought of this is devastating. We are appreciative of all his healthcare professionals who showed great empathy, compassion and understanding during this process.

After several rounds of chemotherapy, Cole regained his strength and his quick wit and sense of humor returned. He endured this challenging time and is now flourishing. He is a SURVIVOR!!! Cole is married to Rachel and living his life as any other 28-year-old man in Chicago might be. We are incredibly thankful for this and feel very blessed.

In addition to our son, we have a daughter who also went to the University of Iowa and participated in Dance Marathon each year while she attended. During her senior year, she served as a morale captain and won the Philanthropist of the Year award due to the funds she raised to benefit the Children’s Hospital at the University of Iowa.
